The O’Maley Middle School Performing Arts Department is holding an exciting series of performances of “Willy Wonka Junior” and Cape Ann TV is featuring special programs on the creative show co-directors Talia Brown, Jennifer Luzitano and Leslie Sellers on Cape Ann Report on March 7 at 7 p.m. and the students in the cast and crew and student choreographers in a special program also that week. The performances of Willy Wonka Junior are scheduled on Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10 and Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17 at the O’Maley Auditorium. Call 978-281-9850 for tickets and information. In addition to being sold at school lunches, tickets will go on sale a half hour before show time.

Seventy-five sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students are in the cast and crew. Students have been rehearsing for an hour after school twice a week since September. Audiences are sure to be impressed and inspired by the talent and exuberance radiated by the young performers as they sing, dance, and act out this heartwarming story. The performances are an excellent showcase of the end product of the Performing Arts Department’s elective after school training programs in the disciplines of Music (Chorus), Dance, and Theatre.

Dress rehearsals will be in the O’Maley Auditorium from 2:15-4:15 p.m. on Monday, March 5 and Wednesday, March 7.

This month, seArts ask you to support Cape Ann the arts and cultural organizations and community by voting for Cape Ann recognition in the summer issue of American Style Magazine. Supporters can vote on www.surveymonkey.com/s/3YYDSTL. In 2011, the arts community and seARTS, joined together to secure the nomination for Cape Ann-Gloucester as a Top 25 Arts Destination by American Style Magazine. Thanks to the community’s votes, Cape Ann Gloucester won the #3 spot on the list for small U.S. cities. This year, seARTS wants to aim for the #1 spot and increase Cape Ann’s visibility as an arts destination.

Securing a place on this year’s list for Cape Ann – Gloucester as one of America’s Top 25 Arts Destinations will elevate Cape Ann to the national arts stage. Cape Ann currently boasts more than 2,000 working artists and has a thriving arts community that celebrates arts of all disciplines. Rocky Neck is the oldest continuous working art colony in the U.S. while Rockport draws visitors all year long!

To achieve this distinction, seARTS requests that the entire community’ support in spreading the word and voting for Cape Ann by March 3 The ranking is city-based , but all of Cape Ann will be included in the destination information submitted and the article in the magazine.

1. Vote from your computer, your telephone or cell phone on www.surveymonkey.com/s/3YYDSTL by March3; and

2. Attach the link and/or icon at the bottom of all your emails in the signature line!

3. Use the promotional postcard jpeg in your literature and emails: http://bit.ly/ypN3y0

4. Link to the voting icon: http://bit.ly/A3MD3D

5. Blog and Tweet the Survey Link

Earning this arts designation offers an opportunity to all of the Cape Ann cultural organizations and artists and businesses a chance to celebrate the award in their literature and publicity for Cape Ann and helps to brand Cape Ann as an arts destination.

American Style Magazine is a highly respected national publication focusing on arts, crafts, and travel and is an widely accepted resource for artists and art enthusiasts. The magazine features top art events across the country, highlights select destinations and profiles individual artists. The readership of AmericanStyle represents the cultural and creative economy that Cape Ann also hopes to attract.

The Society for the Encouragement of the Arts is a coalition of individual artists, art organizations, cultural and civic groups, and businesses working to improve the economic base for the arts on Cape Ann, and to promote Cape Ann’s thriving arts community and rich arts heritage. The Society for the Encouragement of the Arts has been a recipient of the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Adams Arts Fund for Cultural Economic Development and the Boston Foundation’s Bruce J. Anderson fund. For more information about seARTS visit www.searts.org or info@searts.org . seARTS encourages you to join in this initiative to raise Cape Ann’s cultural status and enjoy a recognition that will benefit all of Cape Ann! seArts representatives will appear on Cape Ann Report in February to talk about this exciting opportunity!

It was big day for a lot of Cape Ann children when Santa made a special stop at Cape Ann TV yesterday from 3-7 p.m. and heard the wishes of dozens of children. The children were all dressed up in their holiday best waiting to meet Santa. While they were waiting, some of the children worked on some wonderful arts and crafts projects such as making beautiful holiday ornaments to hang on their Christmas tree while others were treated to cookies and refreshments. Santa was happy to visit with the children but had then had to speed on his way to meet other children in time for Christmas! With a jolly, “ho,ho,ho!” he was on his way dashing out of Cape Ann to bring the children’s wish list back to the North Pole.
